The School of Management organized a live Digital Discourse on the topic Impact of Oil Price through a college Youtube channel on 10th November 2021. Dr. Justin Nelson Michael, Professor, School of Management and Director, Centre for Research, got into the role of an influencer and engaged in conversation with Dr. Aloysius Edward J, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Dr. M.K. Baby, Head, School of Management and Dr. Baba Gnanakumar P, Professor, School of Management and Director, Centre for Consultancy and Corporate Training.
Dr. Nelson started the conversation by stating that Bengaluru witnessed a huge fluctuation in the prices of oil from Rs. 100.58 to Rs. 113.93 and similar situations being faced by other states in India in recent times. Dr. Aloysius shared the history of crude oil and the geology of crude oil. Dr. Baby presented the properties of crude oil. Dr. Baba continued the discussion by sharing about the grading of crude oil based on the quality of the composition and International crude oil classification was also discussed. In the discussion, onshore and offshore exploration was discussed in length. The panelists also discussed the oil price and volatility of the price. The panel spoke about the petrol prices in different states of India. The panelists thought that the oil tax should be reduced to reduce the burden on the common man. In the end, there was a discussion on whether the taxes on petrol and diesel should be included in GST. The panelist answered all the queries raised by the participants.
Digital Discourse Dynamics of Cryptocurrency
A Digital Discourse, a YouTube Live - In studio programme on the topic ‘Dynamics of Crypto currency’ was organized by the School of Management, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bangalore on 07th October 2021. Dr. Justin Nelson Michael, Professor, School of Management and Director, Centre for Research, donned the role of an influencer and engaged in conversation with Dr. Aloysius Edward J, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management and Dr. Baba Gnanakumar P, Professor, School of Management and Director, Centre for Consultancy and Corporate Training.
Dr Nelson in his opening remark raised a few fundamental questions that lay people would want to know about crypto currencies and how these currencies work in the market. The questions pointed at the two expert speakers, slowly unravelled the phenomenon of Crypto currencies, Bit coins and Block chains. The experts shared numerous examples of the types of bit coins in operation and how one trades in them.
Dr Edward, stated that Crypto currencies would be a reality and not an unknown phenomenon in the future. He stated that sooner or later economies hesitant in welcoming this form of cryptic trading will accept it with open arms. He envisaged that the grand plan of India becoming a $5 trillion economy will be a reality if Crypto currencies are made operational with regulatory guidelines.
Dr Baba Gnanakumar, shared evidences of bit coin experimentation in different countries. He explained in detail how mining takes place in stages. The experts also shared their concerns about these transactions and suggested measures that must be taken to make it more regulated like the stock exchanges. The live session was an eye opener for many and was watched live by academicians, industry professionals, students and crypto currency enthusiasts. The host Dr Nelson moderated the Question and Answer session by taking questions from the audience.
