Pre-Requisite Course: Statistical Techniques for Business Decisions

A Pre-Requisite Course was conducted for the MBA Batch 2026–2028, First-Year students, for the subject Statistical Techniques for Business Decisions by Kristu Jayanti Institute of Management. The course was designed to strengthen the students' basic knowledge on mathematics and statistics required for the effective understanding of the subject. The programme was conducted for a total duration of 10 hours. The syllabus covered quantitative thinking, rational thinking, business applications and indices, arithmetic and geometric progressions, and simultaneous equations. Students were also introduced to matrices, including their applications, addition, multiplication, determinants and Cramer's Law. Further, sessions on tabulation and visualization covered simple and multiple tabulation, cross-tabulation, frequency distribution, and graphical presentation using bar charts, pie charts, scatter plots and box plots. Basic concepts of central tendency, namely mean, median and mode, were also discussed. To make the learning process interactive and engaging, activities such as group discussions, case analysis and quizzes were conducted. These activities encouraged active participation and helped students apply the concepts in practical situations. Overall, the pre-requisite course provided a strong foundation and prepared the students for the successful study of Statistical Techniques for Business Decisions.
